Okay you guys, since I moved, I haven’t had a proper computer chair and this week I finally bought one and it is sooooooo comfy! I cannot wait to spend hours on it! Mostly will be using it for work but I will also be using it for writing and journaling! Honestly, it was a great investment and like, is this what being an adult is like? Being excited about a chair and blogging about it? Looks like it haha.

Less Than One Week Until Christmas!
Can you believe it’s December 19th? I definitely cannot. On December 8th, I started a new job and my head has been ALL OVER THE PLACE. There is so much information to learn and I need to wake up super early to take the train in so it’s been a struggle BUT I am surviving!
I thought I would be able to write on the train but I have been taking advantage of transit to read. I am desperately trying to finish Wizard’s First Rule. I am not sure if anyone reading this has tried to attempt that one but it is like 800 pages and the first of a series of like 13 books. I am on page 570 and I wanted to finish it by tomorrow but I don’t think that will happen because I am not a machine. I wanted to finish it by tomorrow because on the 21st my book club has a reading challenge starting, so I need to try and finish all my books. Which reminds me I need to finishing listening to the audiobook for Lovelight Farms. What a super cute Christmas novel. I definitely recommend it! I am about halfway through it and I am really enjoying it. I love holiday books, they are just so cute and cozy. I have read only two in my lifetime so this will be my third. Do any of you read holiday books? If so, do you have any favourites?
I do have some time off this holiday season which was unheard of at my old job. This is the first time in 16 years I don’t have to work on the holidays! Hurray! Hopefully I will be able to write a ton of things on here that I have been putting off because I have been going to bed at 8pm like a grandma because I am getting used to my new schedule. At least two days a week I am working from home. I love working from home. It definitely gives me a break from seeing people which was never the case at my old job so I am loving it so much!!!
I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season and you’re not too overworked or stressed! Just eat some holiday treats if you are and I think you will feel better! Until next time readers!
It’s Definitely The Holiday Season
Do you ever feel like during the holidays, things really get busy? This year a lot of things are happening for me other than the holidays and I have been getting extremely overwhelmed at times even though I love the holidays haha.
First things first, in July, I applied for a new job and found out on Halloween I got the job. So, after 16 years at my current job I am moving on. I know, 16 years is a long ass time to work somewhere especially when you’re 35 years old. It’s actually super unreal and I can’t believe that next Thursday is my last day. I think I’m still in shock and it hasn’t registered that I won’t be there anymore but I am super happy about it. My first day at my new job is December 8th. I took a week off between the two jobs and I really need the break so I’m super happy about it! Can’t wait to get everything started!
During my week off I’m going away for a weekend with my two friends to New Hampshire! It will be so nice to finally get out of the country for the first time since February 2020. I can’t believe it’s been that long. I miss vacation SO MUCH. I was not one of those people that traveled during the pandemic (no judgement if you did, your life, your choice obviously) so this will be great, I plan on doing a lot of shopping because there is no tax in New Hampshire! I’m hope there’s some nice stuff there and for a good price! I will definitely be calculating the exchange rate ALL THE TIME. I really wish we had good shopping outlets here or way less tax! Alas a girl can dream! Very short update today but hopefully I will have time to post more things soon! If I’ll be working from home I’ll have way more time to write ALL OF THE POSTS ON HERE!
The Wife Upstairs – Rachel Hawkins
⭐⭐⭐

The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins is a retelling of Jane Eyre. I did not enjoy Jane Eyre at all, I don’t think those types of books are for me. This book however, was okay if you don’t know anything about Jane Eyre. It is the exact same story except a more modern version. Even the characters names are the same.
The story follows Jane, a dog walker new to Birmingham, Alabama, a rich neighborhood where its residents don’t realize if she takes a few trinkets from her employers. She meets wealthy and widowed Eddie Rochester whose wife Bea drowned in a boating accident with her best friend. Jane looks at Eddie as a new opportunity but as they fall for each other, Jane is constantly haunted by the memory of Bea since in town knew her. Will she ever be able to measure up to Eddie’s wife or will her past…or Eddie’s catch up to them?
I read this book in February 2021 in my book club and didn’t find it very exciting even though many people LOVED it on bookstagram and in my book club. I found it to be a fast read but predictable. I hope if you read it, you enjoyed it more than I did!
Do you enjoy retellings? If so, which is your favourite?
Stolen Sisters: An Inquiry In Feminicide in Canada – Emmanuelle Walter
⭐

I’m sorry to re-start my book reviews with such a low rated (in my opinion) book. I first want to say that this book was translated from the French “Les Soeurs Volées.” I think the fact that this book was translated into English perhaps plays a factor as to why I didn’t enjoy it very much. It also read like an essay and not like a actual novel which was a bit repetitive and all over the place.
The book follows journalist Emmanuelle Walters who spent two years investigating the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and the disappearance of Maisy Odjick and Shannon Alexander. These teenagers from Quebec have been missing since September 2008. Through interviews, personal anecdotes, news clippings and official documents, she tells the story of the girls’ disappearance and the loss of two young lives within the community.
One thing that this book did do is open my eyes to the fact that the Canadian government has completely failed the Indigenous people. They have no done enough to ensure that they have a good quality of life nor do they seem to care if these women go missing or are murdered. They need to do more to help out the communities. Here in Quebec, we are not taught about these things in school, or we weren’t when I was in school, I’m not sure what it’s like now, but kids should be taught the history of this country with both its good parts AND bad. People need to be made aware of what’s going on. This was my first time reading about this subject and since then I have only read one more book about it. This was my book club’s pick for January 2021 so it’s been awhile since I have read it. I have often thought about re-reading it in French to see if I would enjoy it better. I’ll keep you guys posted if I do. If you have any reads to suggest on the subject of missing and murder indigenous women, please write them in the comments.
Rainy Days Are For Blogging
Call me depressing, but I love rainy days and being stuck indoors and just relaxing and doing things that I don’t get a chance to do very much of thanks to work and you know, life. I made myself a calendar to follow with regards to this blog but I’ve epically failed this passed week, thankfully I have today to move things along and potentially tomorrow as well. Here in Canada it is Thanksgiving weekend so we have a three day weekend.
Yesterday I went to the pumpkin patch (which I will write about in a separate post) to pick some pumpkins and squash which was a GREAT time. I love doing fall activities and this year no one really seems excited about doing anything and then my friend suggested the patch and I was like HELL YAH! What a full day of fun! Later on we even went my friend’s place for a fire! It was like 6 degrees Celsius but we had a warm blanket and cuddled together.
After we got home, my boyfriend and I attempted to watch the F1 race that was being shown at 1am our time since it was in Japan, and it was absolute chaos. It was raining heavily but they made them drive anyway and there was like 4 accidents right at the beginning so they stopped the race and we both passed out and woke up and the race STILL hadn’t re started so we went to bed. Not sure if there are any F1 fans reading this, but I will say this and then stop talking about it so as not to bore you. The FIA should definitely not have made the drivers race in that terrible weather! Like what the actual efffff people could have died. In 2014, at that exact track, in those exact conditions, Jules Bianchi, crashed into a recovery vehicle they put on track and later died as a result of that crash. They did the same thing yesterday with a TRACTOR. Imagine you’re driving in weather at like 150 mph and over and you see a TRACTOR. If you hydroplane, you’re finished. They should have known better and they just do not seem to care about the drivers lives. It’s pretty sad honestly. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of watching, I still think that these drivers are HUMAN BEINGS and their lives matter. Okay, rant over now.
In blog news, you’ll be seeing book reviews from me first most likely and I will be reviewing the books I’ve read in my book club first and so they might not all be super recent buuuuut maybe you’ll hear something you like and pick up a book or seven.
I’m so happy I’m able to post on here more often, I wish there were more hours in a day because I find writing to be so releasing even if I just babble here about random things, I just feel lighter you know? I’m not sure if you understand but I do hope you enjoy what I post on here and I don’t waste your time.
New Passion Alert!
Okay sooooooooooo I had originally wanted to post yesterday but I ended up going out to this massive plant shop and now, I’m obsessed. My coworker gave me my first three plants and yesterday I bought my first plant and my boyfriend even bought me one so now I have FIVE PLANTS. I’ve always loved flowers and plants but now that my boyfriend and I are living together, we needed some plants of our own. I guess really they are mine but maybe he will take care of them too.
I actually have a lot to say about this newfound hobby. FIRST….did you know there is such a thing as PLANTSTAGRAM!?!?! Before I created my Bookstagram, I didn’t know that existed either and now I am SUPER tempted to create a plantstagram but seriously I have 4 instagrams already and a fifth might be a little excessive. You’re probably reading this and going FOUR. Yes, FOUR. My personal one, a photography one, a food one with my boyfriend that he INSISTED we make to show what we eat but he never posts to it and my bookstagram. There’s just something I like about keeping all my things and posts separate. I wonder if anyone I know has a plantstagram. I can tell you most definitely I will have a page dedicated to my plants on here that’s for sure! I already joined a few plant Facebook groups and am excited and scared to dig in! Pun intended! There are also a few books I saw online about planting and plants and I will eventually read those. I love when all my hobbies come together!
Do any of you reading this like plants? Any tips or tricks for someone just starting out with plants? Please let me know!
Fall is Calling!
Hey guys, it’s me Emily! Do you even remember me? Just kidding, of course you do! It may have been awhile but here I am! It’s been a long a busy few months, but I’m hoping to actual create some form of structure in my life once and for all and soon enough maybe you’ll even get sick of reading my blog about nothing so far haha. I know I say this every time I post but this time, I’ve joined a group on Bookstagram ( this is an Instagram community for book lovers if you didn’t know) to support fellow bloggers and I’ve already been feeling so inspired to write! I think my main problems are that I never really finish anything I start (except for books clearly) and that back in the day I used to journal a lot. Also, my boyfriend made me a desktop computer because my laptop is pretty much dying a slow death and after over 10 years of not having a desktop, it’s a bit weird to not be able to grab my laptop and just write anywhere I want.
I hope that this time is different. I feel like I have a lot of things to say but don’t know how to organize my thoughts so they don’t come out all scrambled like most of my posts like this haha. Also, sometimes I think no one wants to hear what I have to say, but I need to remember that someone, somewhere wants to hear what you have to say so just friggen write it already. That goes for all you other people reading this as well! Just write whatever you want!
Hopefully I’ll be able to update more, I’m aiming to post about once a week. I already have some ideas of what to post about and can’t wait to share them with you. I hope you enjoy what I have to say and if not, I won’t be offended if you don’t keep reading. Not everything is for everything. One thing I need to be better at is keeping up with other people’s blogs. I don’t read them as much as I would like to but that will change!
I hope you’re all having a GREAT weekend! Until next time friends!
Spring is Just Around the Corner!
It seems I start all my blog posts the same way. I am failing at keeping up with this blog as much as I wanted to. I didn’t make any New Year’s resolutions but I set a few goals. So far, I ‘ve failed at blogging once a week and making a new recipe each month. Maybe this month I can make 3 new recipes and then that would at least catch me up there lol. I think that I just need to make an actual schedule about what to do when and then I would get more things accomplished.
If anything, Daylight Savings is not helping. Last night Marvin and I went to the Habs game and even though we lost, we had a fun time! The only part that sucked was that Marvin had to work today at 6am and the game went into shootouts. When we got home Marvin realized he forgot his meds at home and so I woke up at the same time as him and drove to his house to get them and bring them to him at work. Then I went back home and slept for 4 hours. I never do that. Now I can’t seem to kill this exhausted feeling, it is very frustrating. I also feel bad for Marvin because he’s working a 12 hour shift today.
I’m going to have a coffee and get some things done! Short but sweet today folks, I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!
New Year, Same Me
Well here we are, 2022. Anyone else feeling like the new year doesn’t have any significance? It’s always about new beginnings but we are all stuck in the same Hell these days. Where I live, we are back in lockdown I guess you can call it. We have a curfew from 10pm to 5am and all restaurants and bars are closed. It’s so sad. I miss going out, I miss my friends. I think we are all fucking fed up. I have made a few Goals for 2022 for this blog at least and so I will share them with you all now.
Blog Goals 2022
- Post a life update at least once every two weeks. I’ve been actually blogging a lot more on here than on my last blog which is saying a lot because I barely post on here. I want to be creative and I love writing even though my life is pretty boring at the moment… I should have done writing at school. Sometimes I feel I missed my calling in a lot of life aspects but alas here I am, blogging about nothing at 34 years old in the spare room of the house I share with my mom.
- Interact with more blogs. I realized I follow blogs and some people are so nice to follow me, but I haven’t really been interacting with anyone on WordPress which makes me feel like a huge bitch because the least I can do is read and comment on other people’s blogs. Like, who do I think I am?
- Post book reviews regularly again. I have been reading a shit ton of books and haven’t posted many reviews on here, I need to get on that so badly. In 2021, I read 53 books. I don’t even know if I have 10 reviews on here. I need to organize my schedule better in order keep up with everything. I have bought a book planner which is massive and has room for so much life stuff in addition to my book stuff so I’ll start planning my blog in there.
As for anything else, I’m not really sure yet, but that sounds like a good start for me. I started watching Laguna Beach. Yes the exact TV Show you’re thinking about. I’m thinking about starting to write reviews about reality shows as I have many thoughts. I have never been one to watch reality TV but the pandemic has brought it out of me. I’ve watched all the seasons of The Circle, Too Hot To Handle and season one of Tiger King. It’s so bad but I can’t help myself. We will see how long this lasts. I look forward to all these fun things!
